FAQs
Commissions and Frequently Asked Questions
Miss Mei Kei has offered commissions of pet portraits and family portraits for the first two and a half years of her art-making journey. Next year, in 2024, she will be taking fewer commissions to focus on personal endeavors -- one being an adventure into landscapes and florals inspired by her travels near and far and two being human portraiture. She aims to marry her background in Psychology to her expressions in pencils and paint. There is so much to explore and share and she is taking every opportunity to make the most of this special chance to bring her visions to life.
For the time being, you may submit a commission request via the "Contact" form. She will carefully study the desired subject and will take time to consider the creation process for you. She wants a positive relationship with you as an art collector and will move forward with a project if she is especially inspired by your and your subject's story. If the subject is available and if it is at all possible, she will request from you in turn the chance to meet and to photograph your subject herself; this will give her the chance to get to know the subject in person and to use her own camera to collect photographic reference of key elements and details that make the subject special to you. If the subject has passed on, please offer her a good photograph or set of photographs and a great story or stories that will help her get to know your subject prior to starting your special artwork commission.
This is all to say she would love the chance to create a special, meaningful portrait of your loved one and will take your project very seriously.
What is outlined in Miss Mei Kei's art commission contract?
Upon agreeing to and beginning a special commission project with Miss Mei Kei, you will receive her official artwork commission contract to look over and sign. All key aspects of the subject and project will be outlined on this document so that you are both on the same page at the start of your art-collecting journey with her. Please take time to look over this document and feel free to ask questions prior to signing.
Key aspects of this art commission contract help Mei Kei and you to outline in writing the artwork subject, dimensions, medium(s), frame/mount option, social media option, shipping/delivery arrangments, delivery time frame, and payment and payment schedule.
What is the cost of shipping and handling of my artwork?
Shipping and handling costs are calculated based on shipping address, weight of packaged artwork, and shipping method. Weight of framed artwork usually does not exceed 5 lbs. USPS, FEDEX, and UPS are the carriers the artist utilizes most often when shipping to domestic addresses in the United States. However, international and other shipping options are available. Local pick-ups and deliveries can be arranged from Design Market of the Pines in Aberdeen, North Carolina.
How will my artwork be packaged?
Mei Kei makes every effort to utilize eco-conscious and sustainable packaging materials to protect and ship her artwork to her art collectors. Protective wrapping and tape are made of recycled paper by Kraft. Any glue needed during the packaging process is made of natural glue whenever possible. The cardboard box used is typically the same box in which her individual frame orders typically arrive -- she reuses the frame box instead of accumulating additional cardboard/boxes.
What is the typical process can I expect when ordering an artwork commission from Miss Mei Kei?
Step One - Inquiry
Mei Kei will send you an email with a few questions. Your answers will help guide her on what you are envisioning for your custom artwork from her. She will request a few detailed photos of your subject, especially to help her create a beautiful pet portrait painting or drawing for you!
Step Two - Contract
Once she receives your response, Mei Kei will send you a second email including her Art Commission Contract outlining cost and agreement details. Please read the contract carefully. Once she receives your signed contract and your deposit, she may begin work on creating your piece!
Step Three - Sketch
Mei Kei will send you up to three sketches of your subject. Upon your approval of the sketch, she will begin creating your painting or drawing.
